Hemp Oil uses for Animals

Although hemp and marijuana are both classified as cannabis, they are distinctly different. Recreational marijuana(Cannabis Indica) is very high in euphoria-producing THC, while industrial hemp plants(Cannabis Sativa) contain virtually no THC but have high levels of potentially beneficial CBD.

  • Hemp-derived CBD is
  • not psychoactive
  • won’t make an animal high
  • Has no unpleasant side effects
  • Contains less than .3% THC
  • Are legal for sale in all 50 states.

CBD from hemp is not regulated as a drug, has no known toxic level, and it is impossible to overdose.

CBD is available in many convenient forms. Extracts can be given from a dropper bottle directly into the mouth, added to food, dropped on a treat, rubbed into bare skin or inside the ears, or dropped on an animal’s paw so they will lick it off. You can also find hemp CBD biscuits, hemp CBD capsules and gel caps, and topical hemp CBD ointments.

Dosage can vary quite a bit from one situation to the next. It may be necessary to experiment a little to find the right amount, and how often to give.

Typical suggested starting dose: 1 mg – 5 mg per 10 lbs. of bodyweight

1 – 5mg

10 lbs 20 lbs 30 lbs 40 lbs 50 lbs 60 lbs 70 lbs 80 lbs
1 – 5mg 2 – 10mg 3 – 15mg 4 – 20mg 5 – 25mg 6 – 30mg 7 – 35mg 8 – 40mg
Start with a dose on the low end of the range. Changes usually occur within 30 minutes. If there is no change after an hour, increase the dosage. Occasionally improvements will take more than one treatment. To control pain, give approximately every 8 hours. For other uses, or to break unwanted behavior patterns, give once or twice a day. Remember that you cannot overdose and there is no toxicity associated with CBD.

Zatural products are made from a concentrated extract of Cannabidiol (CBD) in a base of Virgin Hemp Oil. Our hemp products are obtained by the CO2 extraction method for a clean solvent-free extract. The whole hemp plant is used to produce a broad spectrum extract with hundreds of trace compounds for the “entourage effect” (when all of the constituents work together to magnify the benefits).

Hemp seed oil is cold pressed from seed at temperatures below 38ºC and unlike commonly used oils in equine nutrition is not chemically refined or treated in any way.

Compared to oils commonly used in horse diets hemp oil contains:

The highest level of polyunsaturated fats
One of the Lowest levels of Saturated fats
Optimal ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 at 3:1
A rich source of Omega 3 and Omega 6
High amounts of γ-linolenic acid and stearidonic acid, the biologic metabolites of LA and ALA, respectively, which none of the other commonly utilised vegetable oils in horse diets contain. Therefore, due to metabolic competition between the two EFAs for access to the ∆-6 desaturase to convert LA and ALA to γ-linolenic acid (GLA) and stearidonic acid (SDA), respectively, the presence of both GLA and SDA in hempseed oil allows this enzymatic step with ∆-6-desaturase to be efficiently by-passed.*

Hemp Oil provides added value in horse diets because it is:

Highly palatable
Very efficient source of dietary energy
Contains unique forms of Omega 3 and Omega 6 in the most efficient form to metabolise of any plant oil without the toxins and dioxins of fish oils.
Delivers correct ratio of Omega 3 and Omega 6 without causing imbalance
Completely traceable*
