Hemp Extract Oil vs CBD Oil vs Hemp Oil

Welcome to the exciting realm where hemp extract oil, CBD oil, and Hemp oil converge! In this blog, we're embarking on a journey to unravel the mysteries surrounding these three terms that have taken the wellness world by storm.

Hemp extract, CBD, and Hemp are often used interchangeably but have distinct characteristics and purposes. So, if you've ever needed clarification on the differences and similarities between these terms, fret not! We're here to shed light on the subject.

Get ready to navigate the fascinating landscape of hemp extract, CBD, and Hemp as we explore their unique properties, potential benefits, and how they shape the ever-evolving world of holistic well-being.

Let's dive in!

Where Do All Hemp Products Come From?

Cannabis is the botanical name of a plant species. There are multiple strains of the Cannabis plant. One of the common strains is Cannabis Sativa (industrial hemp), where most sellers get Hemp and CBD Oil. Another of the common strains would be the Cannabis Indica (Marijuana) and Cannabis Ruderalis.

Industrial Hemp naturally has equal parts of both Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Industrial hemp also contains more than 113 other cannabinoids, even though they are only small trace amounts. Industrial Hemp is legal for cultivation in the USA according to the Farm Bill Act.

The marijuana plant is a little different because it contains higher THC levels and lower levels of CBD. The legal status of Marijuana varies vastly from state to state.

Types of Cannabinoids

The reason for this is because of the THC content. THC provides psychoactive effects, making it popular to use for both medicinal and recreational.

Cannabis ruderalis is the more uncommon of the two. Ruderalis does not grow as tall or as well as the other two strains, and unlike Marijuana, it has higher levels of CBD and lower THC levels. Mainly located in Russia and Europe and used strictly for medicinal purposes.

What is Hemp Extract Oil?

Hemp extract is a potent liquid made from the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). It is created by extracting beneficial compounds like cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other plant chemicals found in hemp.

The extraction process typically involves methods like CO2 extraction or solvent extraction to separate these compounds from the plant material. One prominent component of hemp extract is cannabidiol (CBD), a non-intoxicating cannabinoid known for its potential therapeutic properties.

Hemp extract can also contain other cannabinoids like cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN), cannabichromene (CBC), and minimal traces of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), within legal limits. With its diverse range of potential health benefits, hemp extract has gained popularity and is a key ingredient in Hemp Extract tinctures, capsules, topicals, and edibles.

Hemp Extract products that contain cannabinoids will be expensive because the process of acquiring the oil is expensive. The product's cost will depend on the amount of cannabinoids in the product.

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant. It belongs to a class of compounds called cannabinoids, which interact with the body's endocannabinoid system. Unlike its well-known counterpart THC, CBD does not have psychoactive properties, meaning it does not cause a "high" sensation.

CBD has gained significant attention due to its potential therapeutic effects. Research suggests that CBD may assist with discomfort, relaxation, and sleep and reduce inflammation. It is believed to interact with various receptors in the body, influencing the endocannabinoid system and other neurotransmitter systems.

CBD is an ingredient found in oils, capsules, topicals, and edibles, offering a range of options for individuals seeking its potential benefits. These products usually say CBD at the front of the name due to the high levels of CBD in the product.

There are different types of CBD. These types include Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and Isolate CBD. Each of these different types of CBD oil contains certain amounts of cannabinoids.

CBD products contain cannabinoids like CBD, which is an expensive substance due to the extraction process, and the cost of the product will be dependent on the milligram amount of cannabinoids.

What Is Hemp Oil?

If someone says they are selling Hemp Oil, they are probably referring to the oil from the Cannabis sativa plant seeds. The process of obtaining hemp oil is through a process called cold-pressing.

By cold-pressing the hemp oil, it helps maintain the integrity and pureness of the seed oil. You can tell if a hemp oil product is from the seeds because the ingredients say hemp seed oil. Tests will also show that there are no cannabinoids (CBD & THC) present in the oil because there are no cannabinoids in Hemp seed oil.

Hemp oil is a superfood and is consumed for its high levels of Omegas naturally found in the oil. Hemp seed oil contains a 3:1 ratio of vitamins and other nutrients. Because of the omegas and vitamins, hemp oil may be excellent for general health.

Hemp seed oil is a very cheap oil. The process from farming the product to extracting the oil is non-expensive, which affords for lower ending pricing for the product.

Comparing Hemp Extract Oil, CBD Oil, and Hemp Oil

As you can see, all three are separate, but the names of these products are also used interchangeably. Why is there confusion with the different names surrounding these products?

A lack of FDA regulation over cannabis products causes the confusion. Because the FDA does not regulate cannabis products, sellers can list them under whatever name they want. Hemp Extract and Hemp oil can mean an oil extracted from the hemp plant.

Just because it's an oil from the hemp plant, it may or may not contain cannabinoids like CBD and THC. Whereas CBD oil explicitly means that there is CBD in the product. The reason someone purchases any of these three oils is that they want the benefits of cannabinoids like CBD or THC.

Full Spectrum CBD Gummies

So, how do you know if you are buying a product with cannabinoids and not just hemp seed oil? Let's talk about the labels on these products and how to tell if there are cannabinoids in the product.

How To Decipher Hemp and CBD Labels

Learning how to decipher hemp and CBD labels is important so you don't end up paying CBD prices for a cheap hemp seed oil product. Typically the first thing you can look for is a milligram (MG) strength on the front of the bottle. The MG strength indicates how much there is of the hemp extract or The CBD content.

However, a company selling hemp or hemp extract oil can claim an MG amount even if there are no cannabinoids in the product. The MG amount could refer to hemp seed oil. A great way to avoid this is to check and see if the company offers a COA for the product. The COA test shows the levels of cannabinoids in the product.

Sum It Up!

Our opinion here at Zatural is, "If the product doesn't say CBD, don't buy it!" If your goal is to enjoy the benefits of CBD and other cannabinoids, look for a product with CBD in the title. Purchasing Hemp Extract or Hemp Oil puts you at risk of paying a high price for hemp seed oil, which is an amazing oil on its own but cheap.

The legality of hemp, CBD, and hemp extract all depends on which state you live in. If the hemp extract in your drink mix contains THC, then there may be more cause for concern. However, most CBD and Hemp extracts do not contain THC. CBD alone is legal in every state. It’s THC that the local laws are directed toward.

I suggest reading our blog “Is CBD Legal in my State”

There is a chance that your daughter-in-law assumes that anything hemp or CBD-related is marijuana and will get you high. However, that is not the case. CBD is not capable of causing any type of high. THC (which is the main cannabinoid in marijuana), on the other hand, will get you high when taken in large enough quantities.

Let me know if this helped answer your questions.

I had a ten-pack nutrition powder packs that I put in my water bottle. Later, I read the label on the powder flavor (mixed berry) and in small font I read the box and it contained “Hemp Extract”. I was a my daughter-in-law’s visiting and she accused me of taking CBD. She instructed me to throw it away. That it was illegal and did not want it in her house. I did so, but by reading this article I am curious about its illegality and usage. Can someone explain to me if it is safe and legal in powder form to put into water to flavor it? The package read nutritional. Was I correct in throwing it out? Is that illegal to have it? Thank you.
