Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil vs Cannabis; What is the Difference?

Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil vs Cannabis; What is the Difference?

Hemp Oil, CBD Oil, Cannabis Sativa, Industrial Hemp, Marijuana, Hemp Extract...Finally a simple description of each and their uses!

What is Cannabis:

Cannabis is the botanical name of a plant species. There are multiple strains of the Cannabis plant. One of the common strains is called Cannabis Sativa (industrial hemp), which is where we most sellers get Hemp and CBD Oil. Another common strain would be the Cannabis Indica (Marijuana). These are different plants, but both come from the same plant family. Industrial Hemp naturally produces higher levels of Cannabidiol (CBD) and low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Industrial Hemp is legal for cultivating in the USA according to the Farm Bill Act. Marijuana plants are just the opposite producing high levels of THC and lower levels of CBD. The legal status of Marijuana varies vastly from state to state.

What Is Hemp Oil:

If someone says they are selling Hemp Oil, they are probably referring to the oil that comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant seeds. The process of obtaining hemp oil is through a process called cold-pressing. By cold-pressing the hemp oil it helps maintain the integrity and pureness of the seed oil. You can tell if a hemp oil product is genuinely from the seeds because the ingredients will say hemp seed oil. Tests have shown that there are no cannabinoids (CBD & THC) present in the seeds of the hemp plant.

Hemp oil is a superfood and consumed for its high levels of Omegas naturally found in the oil. Hemp seed oil contains a 3:1 ratio of vitamins and other nutrients. Because of the omegas and vitamins, hemp oil may be excellent for general health.

What is CBD Oil:

CBD is a cannabinoid found in the Cannabis hemp plant leaves, stem, and flower. CBD is naturally found in many different plants but is more abundant in the Hemp plant. The human body even produces small trace amounts of CBD.

There are two methods of extracting CBD oil. One is by removing just the CBD and turning into an isolate. CBD isolate is the right choice if you want only the benefits of CBD. The other extraction method is known as full-spectrum CBD, and it is gathered through Co2 extraction. Full-spectrum CBD is pure oil from the cannabis plant leaves, stem, or flower. Full-spectrum is the preferred extraction because you get not only the benefits of CBD but also the other cannabinoids found in the plant.

How do you know if you are buying CBD oil? CBD oil goes by a few different names, but the most common alternative is Hemp Extract. If a product is not labeled CBD look for hemp extract listing or a product that has a milligram (mg) amount listed on the front of the product. We recommended that you check the ingredients for the term CBD or hemp extract.

Hi Dick, we do have a CBD Cream!
Taking CBD Oil sublingually is also effective. By taking it sublingually, it allows the CBD to absorb into the bloodstream faster than absorbing through skin or through the digestive system.

  • Dick

My 72YO wife just had a knee replacement and we started using a CBD cream that was a gift. It seems to give her relief and we need to acquire more. My questions are: Do you have a cream/ointment product?; Can you recommend one?; Since we’ve only had experience with a cream can you say whether a “sub-lingual” would be a good alternative?
    Thank you for your consideration,

    Dick G

Hi Gene, 3.3mg of CBD is not a lot of CBD, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. Everyone reacts to CBD differently! Some people need a lot of CBD to notice a difference in their body, while some people only need a little bit of CBD to notice a difference.

Hi Leigh, thanks for sharing your story!! We’re so glad you’ve finally been able to get relief in your life.

  • Leigh

Hi everyone, i am a 54yr old female former athlete. I suffer from 2 herniated discs in my neck, bone spurs and spinal cord edema at C4 thru C7. I also have severe nerve damage and neuropothy of left thigh. I DONT like taking traditional pain killers and rely on as many vitamin supplements as possible: NOT until I added the hemp oil, did I truly become practically pain free!! : Hemp Oil, (1 full dropper, in the am, under tongue, empty stomach, inflammation, pain, antioxidants), Turmeric,(inflammation, after breakfast) biotin, (helps maintain proper function of the nervous system, after breakfast) D3,(before bed, helps the body make neurotransmitters) B12,(am on empty stomach, supports the regeneration of nerves cells,) and meloxicam for osteoarthritis (1X/day in the am). We have canabanoid receptors in our body naturally and our bodies know exactly what to do with hemp oil/cbd oil.(Vicodin/oxy products are foreign to our bodies!) It’s been 2 months and I am almost pain free. I cant believe it took me this long to search for alternative treatments! I am so impressed, I am going to start selling these products!

Hi Dorothy, to be sure you’re buying quality CBD Oil, we recommend buying from a reputable company. If you look at our CBD listings on our site, we offer 3rd party test results which can be a very helpful resource when buying from any company. When taking CBD, you should be able to notice some results pretty quickly. You might need a higher amount of CBD per serving, as well.

  • dorothyheath

I’m confused. Some of the answers say it’s not CBD oil, but some say it is CBD oil. I got some off Amazon, they said that Amazon will not al low the selling of CBD oil. What do i do, which one is it? I’m using a 500 mg, with 16.8 per dose. (hope this makes sense) It’s not helping yet,but the drug store says it takes a while to get relief. I have a lot of pain, from disc to osteoarthritis, to stenosis, to fibromyalgia. not a great quality of life.

  • Zatural

Mordecai, Cannabis Sativa (Industrial Hemp) is what we use to make our CBD products. It’s naturally low in THC and higher in Cannabidiol (CBD). This makes it preferred for making CBD oil.

  • Zatural

It all depends on how your body reacts to CBD oil. The strengths of our products just give more CBD per serving. If you’re just starting out, we would recommend starting with our regular strength so you can get a better feeling for how much CBD oil you need.

  • Zatural

Our products are not certified GMO, but we do not modify them in any way. Our products are chemical and pesticide free!

CBD is used to assist with anxiety because it relaxes the body. Hemp Oil does not contain CBD which means it likely won’t have the effect you’re looking for.

  • Zatural

While CBD is great for assisting with pain, inflammation, anxiety, sleep, stress, and more; you may be able to notice a difference in your body with Hemp Oil. It’s very nutritional as it has many vitamins and omega’s 3 and 6. Some people are able to notice some assistance with pain and even inflammation while taking the Hemp Oil.

Hi Evan, Our CBD oil comes from the stem of the plant, while our Hemp Seed oil comes from the seed. We use the Industrial Hemp strain in our products which—by nature—contains lower THC levels and higher CBD levels. The Marijuana plant, however, contains higher levels of THC and lower levels of CBD. As far as gender of the plant goes, I have not found any reliable information verifying that gender affects the CBD or THC levels in the plants.

  • Zatural

Hi Lois, you should experience the same effect for both. The oil drops are better for internal use while the salve would be better for external use.

  • Evan Bartle
    Evan Bartle

Which parts of the plants are each of these products harvested from?
Also, what genders are needed for each?

I thought that high THC level products come from female plants that have not been pollinated by males (I may have this backwards), but can you clear up which gender plants are used for what and at what stage in their life?

Thanks so much for your help!
    Have a great day!

Hi Cheryl, for legal reason we can’t make any type of medical claims, saying that our product will cure or treat any type of medical diagnosis, such as (depression). Our CBD oil is great for assisting with pain, inflammation, stress, anxiety and sleep. To help with taste we do offer peppermint flavor. We will be offering more flavors in the near future. Some who take the oil like to mix it with orange juice or use orange juice as a chaser.

  • Cheryl

What helps with depression? What can I do so it doesn’t taste so bad?

Hi Mollie, For legal reason we can’t make any type of medical claims, saying that our product will cure or treat any type of medical diagnosis, such as (IBS). Our CBD oil is great for assisting with pain, inflammation, stress, anxiety and sleep. So our product could assist you with stress for sure. The difference between the oil and the drops will be the amount of CBD in each serving, and also how fast you can receive the benefits. The soft gels take longer because they have to be digested, where as the drops are administered under the tongue so it gets into your bloodstream faster.

  • Mollie

I’m looking for a natural product to assist with stress that is causing IBS. Do you recommend CBD oil or hemp? And is there much of a difference between the oil and the soft gels?

  • Zatural

Hi Barbara, our Full spectrum CBD oil line would be a great start for finding assistance with pain and inflammation. Our CBD oil contains hemp seed oil and CBD oil, so you get the best of both. Hi Mary, our Full spectrum CBD oil is great for assisting with pain, inflammation, stress, and anxiety. People and pets are able to take CBD oil to receive its calming benefits. When giving CBD to small dogs, you will want to reduce the dosage size. We recommend 30 drops for people, and about 5 drops for pets to start out with.

  • Jack

How do you offer regular, x3 & x5 strengths without using some carrier oil or filler oil?

  • Karen

One of THE clearest articles I’ve come across on the differences between hemp oil pressed from the seeds and CBD oil derived through extraction from the whole hemp plant.

Thank you. I wish you were in Canada (and that these were Canadian prices!).

  • Zatural

Hi Sandy, for legal reason we can’t make any type of medical claims, saying that our product will cure or treat any type of medical diagnosis, such as (arthritis). Our CBD oil is great for assisting with pain, inflammation, stress, anxiety and sleep. Depending on the amount of pain or inflammation you will need to pick a strength according. If you are on a scale of 5 to 7 then 3x strength is the best. You can take more or less depending on what you feel as needed.
